+In the six months since killing the residency, every metric that matters doubled. Followers across platforms. Group chat membership. Contact list depth. And the one that actually counts — average turnouts quadrupled. We went from 1-2 events per month to 1-2 per week.

+That’s not correlation. That’s what happens when you stop splitting focus across a structure that was built for artist development but had become a vehicle for scene politics.

+The residency model works in theory. You invest in a small roster, give them regular slots, build their audience alongside yours. In practice, what happened was every residency decision became a political negotiation. Who gets the slot. Who feels overlooked. Whose friends are mad about it. The energy that should have gone into building community was going into managing egos.
